Paris by Melvin Sokolsky (Fashion eye)
A self-taught photographer, Melvin Sokolsky was born in New York in 1933 and grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. In 1959, Henry Wolf, artistic director of Harper's Bazaar, wanted to give the magazine a more contemporary feel and welcomed many emerging photographers, including Sokolsky. Sokolsky played with proportions, revolutionised body language, included himself in the frame, offered bold contrasts between the story and the models, designed incredible props and discovered new faces by bringing them to the forefront. His vision helped shape the Zeitgeist movement.
